Sweet Southern Cornbread Recipe


Description

Cornbread is an option that’s sure to fill you up. You can make cornbread savory or sweet, and even add diced jalapenos and cheese for a Tex-Mex version!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 cup sunflower oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare a 9-inch cake pan by buttering it or spraying it with cooking spray and preheat the oven to 400 F.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients – flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Form a hole in the middle of your dry mix and add the egg, milk, and oil.
  4. Stir the mixture until the lumps start to disappear.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for about 20-25 minutes. Place a toothpick in the middle of the batter to check for doneness. Only light crumbs should stick to the toothpick.
  7. Serve your delicious cornbread while it’s still piping hot!
